Rodrigo Vilas-Boas received his Master in Architecture from Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Lusíada, Porto, in 2005, completing with an Academic Internship at Álvaro Leite Siza Vieira.
Before founding OODA, Rodrigo worked as an architect at OMA / Rem Koolhaas office in Rotterdam and previously at MVentura & Associados Arquitectos in Porto.
Frequently invited to lecture in Portugal and abroad, in 2023 Rodrigo participated in the internationalSymposium on Renewable Energies and Sustainable Architecture that took place in Galiza, Spain. In 2025 he took part in the Hunter International Forum in São Paulo, Brazil, where he delivered a lecture onRethinking Construction in the 3D Printing Era.
Rodrigo was also invited to be guest critic at the Final Reviews of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design in 2022 and has served as jury member in different international design competitions. He was part of the jury panel at The Loop Awards. In 2024 he joined academic activities at the University of Miami’s School of Architecture, where he lectured on housing with 3D printing and served as guest critic, and was invited by IAAC in Barcelona as jury of master final projects on 3D printing in earth construction.
At OODA, Rodrigo oversees the design of hospitality, mixed-use projects, and large-scale urban masterplans, including Arca D’Água in Porto; the Hotel Jornal, a re-use of an iconic 1960s tower that once housed a daily newspaper in Porto; the Marvila Masterplan in Lisbon, which will reconfigure one of the city’s largest urban voids; and Matosinhos Future Hub, a masterplan aiming to transform a 50-year-old oil refinery into a new eco-smart city. He also leads OODA’s first 3D-printed housing prototype project in collaboration with Havelar and is responsible for the office’s Sustainability Department, coordinating the integration of sustainable strategies across projects.
With no need to be absent or move away from architecture, Rodrigo regularly plays tennis in competitions after being almost professional at younger ages.
