Urban structure: four areas, one continuous system
The urban plan aims to create a new kind of urbanity conceived across multiple layers mobility, landscaping, public space and building volumes grounded in in-depth studies of urban integration, mobility and landscape. The proposal is organised around four distinct areas: Açúcar, POLU, Beato and Madre Deus, each with its own identity, yet united by a central park and a sequence of squares, courtyards and green corridors that ensure continuity and cohesion between the new development and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
The urban park is the structural element of the entire plan: it functions as a space for leisure and connection between the different areas of the plan and their surroundings, as ecological infrastructure, and as a mitigation element for the future TTT. Its configuration ensures access from multiple points across the territory, pedestrian and cycling routes, and continuity with the waterfront and the future Marvila station. The park also incorporates spaces for sport, leisure, urban allotments, events and community activities.
