Monte das Obras

Dialogue between the vernacular and the contemporary

Monte das Obras project consists in the conversion of the old Workers’ Residence of the Barrosinha Agricultural Company into a Hotel Establishment. Located in a privileged area, the intervention aims to enhance the architectural interest of the existing buildings. The extension is fully integrated into the landscape, without competing with their volumes. The result not only enriches the vast landscape of the Herdade da Barrosinha, but also seeks to become a tourist attraction.

Extension and Monte das Obras View

The selection process for the buildings to be demolished was careful. The site analysis included a detailed evaluation of the site’s historical significance, as well as technical criteria relevant to this type of operation. By reinterpreting the existing spaces based on the vernacular structure of Casa Alentejana, the proposal transforms them into rooms while carefully expanding them to meet the project’s needs. The hotel will feature 100 rooms, with 81 newly constructed and the remainder adapted from existing spaces. Additional amenities will include a Spa, restaurant, bar, lobby, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and multipurpose rooms. Additionally, the hotel will offer 10 wooden cabins within an 800-meter radius, providing a nature-immersive experience.
