Enlacing memory, landscape and art
Quinta São Gião is a family property located in the parish of Moreira de Cónegos, in the municipality of Guimarães. The intervention area is situated within the agricultural landscape unit of Gandarela and Guardizela, characterized by the prominent presence of granite walls, tanks, water channels, and vineyards. The inception of the project arises from the ‘link’ (enlace) of the family’s memory and local landscape, harmoniously intertwining the realms of art and wine production.
The proposal is meticulously designed with a clearly defined commencement and conclusion, aligning with its designated programmatic elements – beginning at the grape’s reception, the central nexus of the winery space, and culminating within the cellarage area. The winery elevation is simultaneously plastic and silent, artfully alluding to the tectonic essence inherent in the granite walls that grace the encompassing surroundings.
